Highland Park Junior High is proud to announce that it is in the final application stage for an exciting new program - International
Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB-MYP). Our neighboring schools,
Highland Elementary and Highland Senior High, have implemented the IB
program and HPJH is soon to follow. While many schools have introduced
an IB program within their schools, HPJH will be offering this program to the entire
student body. By dedicating the 2009-2010 school year to IB training
and implementation for our staff and students, HPJH will be ready for
IB authorization by 2010. Why has HPJH chosen the IB-MYP program?
- The IB program has been in existence for several decades and has now reached over 2,000 schools and 124 countries.
- It
is an internationally recognized and highly reputable program designed
to fully engage students with an aim of creating a better and more
peaceful world.
- It is catered specifically to the early puberty and mid-adolescent student.
- The
MYP helps students develop the attitudes, life skills and knowledge
necessary to participate fully in a growing and changing world.
- It
is vested in the ethics and values of young people, and its unique
characteristics allow students to make connections between subjects,
link what they learn to the real world, and reflect on their learning.
The IB-MYP has designed a program with a perfect fit for HPJH. If you would like more information, don't hesitate to peruse IB's web site. If you would like to participate and/or contribute towards this change, please contact us. The coordinator for the IB-MYP program at HPJH is Linda Jones and she can be reached at 651-293-8950 (1809) or linda.jones@spps.org
